Reuters: Google’s browser cookies plan anticompetitive, advertisers tell EU

According to a complaint submitted to the European Commission by Movement for an Open Web, a group of advertisers, publishers and tech companies, Google’s plan to block the ‘cookie’ web tracking tool is anticompetitive. 

The complaint is likely to bolster the Commission’s investigation into Google’s Privacy Sandbox, part of which involves the elimination of third-party cookies. 

MOW’s legal representative, Tim Cowen asserts that although Google has said that it aims to strengthen privacy, it is not — instead, its Privacy Sandbox proposes “a creepy data mining party”.
